massage therapy for a better life

About the Practitioner

My name is Donna Lynn Johnson and I have been massaging friends and family since I was 8 years old. It wasn't until I was 23 that I found out that it could be a profession. Well, when I found out I could do this for a living, I was determined, not only would I be a massage therapist, but I would be the best.

After researching over 200 schools around the country, I found the one I thought had the best balance between energy and injury work. Utah College of Massage Therapy, that was the one for me. Not only did it have the perfect balance, but it also had the second largest sports massage team in the country at the time. My dream was to work on the Patriots (which I eventually did). This school had wonderful classes such as Russian Sports Massage, Injury Massage, Touch For Health and too many others to list.

I joined the Sports Massage team and had the opportunity to work on Gymnasts, Speed Skaters, Divers, Quadripelegic  Rugby Players, Skiers and many more. Some disabled, many Olympic or international level athletes. I spent time in a Lakota Sweat Lodge, and worked six hours in the sun for a downhill 1/2 marathon in Moab. It was an amazing experience to prepare me for a fabulous career.

After school, I went to work in a small day spa. This is where I was finally able to realise my dream of working on a few of the members of my favorite sports team. Go Pats! I stayed for over ten years. I learned a lot and grew a lot. Unfortunately, over the years, the "small spa" became a large spa. I found myself performing more "body treatments" than actual healing massage. This work was easier on my hands, but not as satisfying to my spirit.

Finally, I left a position and company that I loved to head out on my own. Now I rent a small space at Baystate Physical Therapy and the Milton Chiropractic Center. This allows me to assist in the recovery of many people, some while still in physical therapy, but for most, massage is a great transition for after pt is completed. While much more difficult, this is the work I truly love.
